“You grew up in freedom, and you can spit on freedom, because you don’t know what it is not to have it.”

For your viewing pleasure, watch Ayaan Hirsi Ali effortlessly dismantle the typical leftist tropes thrown at her in an interview with Avi Lewis (Naomi Klein’s husband). The quote serving as the title comes across as venomously pointed when read, but when Ali delivers it towards the end of the interview it sounds perfectly reasonable and just.
Enjoy (via Copious Dissent):

Fabulous. Ayaan is such a heroine.
The man interviewing her sounds so smug, I am glad she politely handed him his ass.
Oh, like HE has ever had it hard in America. Jeez Louise. Put some labor class schmoe up there to talk with her, someone who actually has had a struggle, and he’d be agreeing with her.
There is a fantasy world that some people live in that is every bit as divorced from reality as the guy (a link at Ace?) who in all honesty told police that he was a Vampire-Werewolf hybrid, because look… he’s got canines.
This guy laughs when she says what is simply true. Because he’s entirely ignorant of how real people live because, and I’m utterly sure of this, he never once in his life had a moment of hardship that was actually hardship.
Oh, well. Naomi is an idiot too. At least they’re probably happy together.
I wonder what she thinks of a person who actually thinks there is a theocracy in the United States.
She seemed to be enjoying herself.
I wonder if he realized she was laughing *at* him.
