Concealed Carry School

A small Texas School district approved a plan to allow teachers to carry concealed handguns on school grounds last October and will see its first school year open later this month with that plan in effect. As far as I know, and as anyone in the article knows this is the first experiment of its kind and thus it will be interesting to see the result. However it will be a long term result no doubt, and we probably won’t hear much of this district again, which is a good thing.

The reasoning sited was,

“When the federal government started making schools gun-free zones, that’s when all of these shootings started. Why would you put it out there that a group of people can’t defend themselves? That’s like saying ’sic ‘em’ to a dog,” Thweatt said in Friday’s online edition of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram.

But I think I’ve found the real need for this measure.

The 110-student district is 150 miles northwest of Fort Worth on the eastern end of Wilbarger County, near the Oklahoma border.

Weekend Gun Lust

Apparently TDI has produced a civilian legal semi-automatic version of their KRISS 45 Carbine. Quite a futuristic looking firearm, which supposedly reduces muzzle climb by 95% for the .45 ACP cartridge. You’ll recognize that as quite a feat if you’ve ever tried to keep a 1911 or even a Thompson level in rapid fire. ImpactGuns is sold out, but there’s always the waiting list.

Ban All Pointy Objects

It might sound like a bad t-shirt from a gun show, but I’m afraid it’s entirely true: Pat Regan, a prominent British anti-gun rights campaigner, who worked for years to abolish the private ownership of firearms in Britain…has been stabbed to death. Although I hate to make a political point on the back of a senseless and tragic murder, it is necessary to point out that crime and violence can and will always find a way. Violence thrives in a vacuum of values, not an abundance of bullets (or blades).

Home & Land Defense

There’s a moment in Mark Steyn’s book America Alone, where he relates the truism that we’ve all experienced conversations with a mild-mannered, educated and seemingly rational person from the Arab world, where quite unexpectedly they say something nutty in the most casual way. “Of course the Jews planned 9-11″ for instance. As Steyn notes, when this happens it’s a peculiar form of media and culture-shock, and you’re not quite certain what to say in response. But this strange cultural dissonance can also be experienced between Europeans and Americans just as easily on certain issues.

M16s for Iraqis

Upgrades for Iraq’s Presidential Brigade. They’ve purchased M16 rifles to replace their AKs:

The Iraqi Army’s Presidential Brigade turned over their older AK-47 model rifles for newer and more accurate M-16s at Besmaya Range Complex in Iraq starting Feb. 5.

The weapons were issued using the biometrics system, which ties each soldier’s photograph, fingerprint, voice, retinal scan and name to the weapon they receive for accountability.

From what I’ve heard our standard battle rifle is coveted among the Iraqi troops (although their special forces are issued M4s).
