OTOH, one of Obama's daughters is allergic to dogs, so since they've been promised a puppy, they may get a poodle or poodle cross.    I believe the girls had decided that a Goldenoodle, was a good choice. Standard or medium sized poodles aren't bad at all.    The poodle was developed as a hunting dog, as Bryan mentioned.   The froo-froo hair cuts are entirely optional.
