Gori Falls

It’s looking increasingly as if the alarmists were right and Russia intends to drop all pretense. Georgian troops are pulling back to Mtskheta to defend the approach to the capital, if Russia pushes to conquer and subjugate the entire country.

To call this country an outright menace to democracy and world peace, is to speak too kindly of it.

Personally I doubt they are going to roll tanks 100% over Georgia…. like we did in Afghanistan and like we did in Iraq. But they do have a right to look for large weapons in the immediate area I would think… especially as they were used against Russian troops. This is merely a police action and they want to make sure there are no big toys to play with when they leave. Don’t forget that Stalin was a homeboy in Georgia and after the Iron Curtain fell this area was a haven for organized crime in Eastern Europe for over a decade. There is no simple cleanup here and you just can’t say “Oh this is a pure lilly white democracy with freedom loving people blah blah blah”. Georgia is headed in the right direction and they will continue in the right direction, I hope. This is a short detour…. like compared to communism there.

Not bad, not bad. It’d make a good effort at an application for a job in the Russian Foreign Ministry. I’d give it a try.
