Sad News for Zambia

Levy Mwanawasa, Zambia’s dynamic capitalist/reformist leader who engineered a remarkable economic turnaround and a dramatic crackdown on corruption, does not look likely to recover from a stroke he suffered in June. He remains heavily sedated in a Paris hospital and the Zambian government is finally contemplating succession procedures. On a supplemental note of praise, Mwanawasa was also one of the first African leaders to publicly denounce Robert Mugabe for being the despotic lunatic he is.
