President McCain?

As any of my readers know, I was a Rudy woman. Now that the handwriting is on the wall for all to see, I must go elsewhere. Romney? McCain?

My best friend from first grade, who has political views remarkably similar to my own, has a blog about critters. Roxy has unearthed the important fact that McCain has more critters than any other candidate!

Now, while having three parakeets may not be the most critical reason for which someone should support a presidential candidate - one must take that tidbit of data into consideration!

That almost makes me not want to vote for him ever…

I know it’s probably just a personal thing but I’ve yet to meet a bird I thought should be caged up.

I would have broken my rule against voting for drug warriors for Rudy, but my dog and three cats are imploring me to vote the Libertarian ticket again. They’re very smart.

Keith - your assumption may be erroneous!

My own birds come and go from their homes (i.e. “cage”) when the mood suits them. During the day, you can fine them gnawing on the reading chair in my bedroom, viewing the woods from a high window, or preening on the top of a framed watercolor. At night, they go into their homes of their own volition. I’m sure they feel secure and safer there once it gets dark.

Perhaps John McCain has “born free” birdies like mine!

Um, are they house trained or something, or do you spend a lot of time scrubbing?

Mr Mollo (”Molotov Cockatiel”, formal name) will “go potty” on demand. Needless to say, however, I am not around all day to tell him the magic words!

The good news is that the 3 birds have usual “hangouts” that I can easily - and frequently - clean.

The bad news? I do go through a lot of bleach and sponges. Well worth it, though!

The house is still a cage for a bird. Like I said, it’s probably just a personal thing.

Keith, perhaps you did not understand my explanation. The birds choose to leave their cages - or stay inside.

You may not be aware, but birds in the wild choose to stay in hidden and secluded spaces that they perceive to be “safe” - rather than be in open spaces at given times.

Would you say that birds in the wild who choose to be hidden are in “cages”? I surely would not.
