One of my friends was crowing to me about this, and I asked him, "and what, praytell, has Al Gore done for world peace?" He couldn't answer. "So why should he receive a prize meant for people who work for world peace?" After a pause, "well the environment is important!" Uh-huh. Compared to people who face literal <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rebiya_Kadeer" rel="nofollow">torture and death</a> for their work to end oppression, this is just offensive as hell.
