One Year and 1,001 Posts

Sunshine and mistIt seems that we rather quietly passed our first anniversary, and reached our 1,000th post, all without the requisite kudos and fanfare. Over the past year, ASHC has grown from just Lance (with a few posts from Robby), to a triumverate, then there were four, and now we are 4+. Along the way we managed to become a member of the Pajamas Media Network (to whom goes a special thank you), and the site migrated through several changes to arrive at the template we use today. So congratulations to us!

I especially want to thank the denizens of QandO for unwittingly being our launching pad (we all “met” in the comment sections there), and for the many links and gracious attention we’ve received since then.

Also, a big shout out to all those who linked to us, whether it was specific posts, or just general blogrolling. We comprehend and appreciate the respect that such links signify. Thank you for helping us get this far.

Most importantly, a ginormous thank you our readers and commenters. Without you all, there wouldn’t be much point. In particular, I want give a nod to Peter, Pogue, glasnost, and ChrisB, all of whom keep the comments section lively. In fact, sometimes the comments are more interesting and informative than the actual posts.

Finally, I want to thank my blog brethren for participating in this experiment with me. I’ve enjoyed it all a great deal and I look forward to the coming year.

Happy anniversary to a great blog, a great bunch of writers and a place I visit daily. Keep up the excellent work guys!

  2. Joshua Foust says:

Word to what McQ said. I like this site, and I’m honored you think my daily, disjointed ramblings on the world’s affairs were worth picking up.

  3. PogueMahone says:

    Yes… Congratulations.

I appreciate the nod, but unfortunately, my old blog “Céilidh Cowboy” is no longer active and its files have been deleted. I just didn’t have to time or energy to pour into it. But I always appreciated the kind words and links that you have provided while it was active. Every time you did, my site meter count shot up 1500%!! (From my usual 3 per day to an overwhelming 45 on average. I know… HUGE numbers that was hard to give up.) ;-)

But you guys and your continuing work has given me great therapy. As I find it relaxing to read and rant comment on your site. And though some of my venting is just pinned up frustrations at others that I project on you guys, the intellectually honest debates that we have had have been very entertaining and frequently unmasking.

I always know that when I have a disagreement with your commentary, I can portray my disagreements – and sometimes I do so with profound belligerence – in the comments section and the author of the original would more than likely respond… despite my belligerence. And I sleep better for it, knowing that I gave ?you? the what for. ;-)

A thousand posts, huh? Hell, I half expected to be banned by now. I guess I’ll just have to try harder. Punk-ass bitches. ;-)

    Cheers.
Keep up the good work, my friends. And forgive me. For I am often witchingly indentured to The PogueMahone demons that possess my keystrokes.

    Pogue,

I for one will, and have, missed your forays at your old place. If possible, can the posts be saved? I can host them if you want. I still poke over there every once in a while to read about brave little worm gathering entrepreneurs being crushed under the heel of the state and other such stirring fare.

  5. Lance says:

    McQ,

Thanks for your kind words. I predict this year will be better than last. Lots going on here, and I haven’t even picked up steam. Wait until I can really get going and the other guys don’t have to carry my water.
