[...] More crucially, Hillary has the ability to think in at least limited geostrategic terms about Iraq. Far more so than she has previously been granted credit for by me. Her awareness that withdrawal from Iraq weakens our ability to exert pressure on Iran, or that Anbar constitutes the primary geographic ambition in the struggle against Al Qaeda in the War on Terrorism, are functionally alien ideas to most of her party’s voters. By adopting policy positions structured on those insights which are obviously wildly unpopular, Hillary has also demonstrated she is reassuringly sensitive to US national interests and conceptually, independent of the further Left. Quite different from the earlier Hillary, who wrote her thesis on Saul Alinsky. [...]

Doesn't surprise me a bit. Virtually everyone on the left believes “There is Only the Fight.” When you believe that all social outcomes are merely the result of prevailing power, it makes perfect logical sense. If you believe that with sufficient political power we can avoid war, provide professional health care to all comers, eliminate poverty and violent crime, eliminate the results of the injustices of generations past, and save the planet...seriously, what else could one possibly believe?
