It might benefit Democrats.
I might not publicly argue my choices, but allowed a secret ballot, between otherwise similar candidates, I would not vote for a smoker, I would not vote for a homosexual, I would not vote for a divorced man. (These are my values. I would express them in a vote, even if I wouldn’t speak of them to someone I thought sought argument)
I think she will help them clear away a potential faux pas.

Coulter sent an e-mail to the Times claiming that "it was a joke," and that she wouldn't think of insulting gays by comparing them to John Edwards.

Of course, I am in favor of this having stolen this one from Peter.

Ann Coulter knows her audience. And CPAC brought her back after her “raghead” comment last year, because they know that she knows her audience, and they knew she would be popular. And the audience queued up to see her, and they laughed and clapped at the remark loudly enough that she had to pause and wait for the applause to die down. And she’ll sell more books because of it, and get more speaking engagements.

Because she knows her audience and she said what they wanted to hear.
